About Us
Havant & District Writers' Circle has been in existence for over forty years, and has helped many members to become successful writers during that time.
We aim to provide a balanced programme which caters for the needs of all members, whether fiction or non-fiction writers, published or just beginning their writing careers.
Past speakers at the Circle include: authors (Simon Brett, Julia Bryant, Martina Cole, Della Galton, June Hampson, Catherine King, Peter Lovesey, Lesley Pearse, Pauline Rowson); comedy writers (Nick Thomas); editors and agents (John Jenkins - Writers' Forum magazine); poets; playwrights; children's book writers/illustrators, BBC scriptwriters (Tina Walker) and the Founder/Director of the Winchester Writers' Conference, Barbara Large.
The Circle also aims to tap into the knowledge of its own members, and we have enjoyed many talks by members relating to their own particular areas of expertise.
We are a diverse and lively group of all ages. We pride ourselves on giving feedback of a member's work which is constructive and supportive, yet allows the member to grow as a writer by understanding how his or her work may be improved.
Several of our members joined as beginners and are now successful and confident writers. Those members of the circle who hold 'celebrity' status are Dee Williams and John Haynes. Dee is an accomplished author; her London historical sagas have regularly appeared in the best sellers lists. John Haynes was the winner of the Costa Poetry Award 2006, with his book, Letter To Patience.
If you enjoy meeting other people with an interest in writing, the Circle provides a friendly and supportive environment in which to develop your talent.
